Asparagus crowns – pack of 7

R140.00 incl VAT

Asparagus are truly plant heirlooms! Not only do they produce delicious, tender spears to enjoy in spring and early summer, but they last many, many years if given some attention each summer. I must warn you that these two-to-three year old UC157 hybrid asparagus crowns don’t look like much in their bag – they have a straw appearance as they were prepped for dispatch. However, they will come to life in the spring, and earn their place in your food garden .

While UC157 hybrid asparagus crowns aren’t heirloom varieties, they are excellent producers for home gardeners. The crowns are supplied seven per bag. Planting guidelines are available.

Hadeco is a well-known South African producer of quality tubers and bulbs for the export and domestic market.

How about sowing some asparagus seeds this coming Spring. I’ve had great success in the past with seeds – if you give them optimal conditions, they don’t take as long to start producing as one would think. We had lovely young spears in the third year. For sure they were nurtured in the following years but if you grow enough plants, there are sufficient spears to see you through the young years and then you can gift any extra plants. Win!
