Pole bean: New Mexican Red Appaloosa
R30.00 incl VAT
This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘One of the best-yielding beans and a keeper for years to follow. These beans didn’t impress me at first as they were some of the last to start producing, but oh boy when they got going I was rather impressed. I pulled the plants in autumn while they were still flowering and producing new pods, but I had already harvested more than I needed from only 20 initial seeds sowed. Be patient with this bean and it will pay you back with hoards of pods. The plants have a bit of an untidy growth habit and will climb, crawl and sprawl to any opening they can find, but every runner they send out will produce. The beans are understood to have been first grown by cliff-dwelling tribes in the New Mexico area and do well in our hot and dry summers. These are great flavoured beans that keep some of their maroon pigment when cooked. Highly recommended.’
