Bush bean: Conserva
R35.00 incl VAT
This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘Known by German growers as ‘Konserva’, this is an old-style green bush bean and was marketed for the first time back in 1925. Conserva was bred by David Sachs out of two European varieties, Alpha and Saxa. This is not the typical green bean you find in stores these days, but a true heirloom showcasing how beans looked back then. They have unique quirky and wrinkled-shaped pods but have the flavour most modern beans lack. The light green pods are stringless when young and make for a good snap bean. The small white seeds are tinted pink. If you want to grow a true heirloom bean and experience what people enjoyed a century ago then you should try these but don’t expect the same bean you find at supermarkets.’
