Cowpea: Pink Eye Purple Hull

R30.00 incl VAT

This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘This delectable, nutty-flavoured cowpea is perfectly suited to hot summer heat. This classic variety of cowpea has long been a favourite across the world and especially in the southern parts of the USA for its impressive heat tolerance and wild productivity. The plants grow quickly in the face of intense weather and will produce plenty tasty, tender pods in a sweetheart pink, creamy colour . These cowpeas produce dark green pods with a purple hue that can be eaten fresh/cooked or as dry beans. Cowpeas are one of the easiest plants to take care of. They love the summer heat and produce pods when nothing else is around in the garden. Cowpeas, being legumes, can be used as a green manure cover crop to return nitrogen to the soil. A very reliable crop that really doesn’t ask for much, and for its space to effort ratio cowpeas are outstanding even in the poorest of soils.’
