Bush bean: Blue Jay

R35.00 incl VAT

This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘This bean was discovered and named by Russ Crowe in 1977. It was a natural outcross that happened in his garden. Russ attended an exhibition where he showcased his newfound Blue Jay beans. Unfortunately the whole jar was stolen from his table! He later found his beans for sale in Canada, under the same name he’d given it, and ordered a packet. The variety ended up reaching commercial status in Canada and the USA. The Blue Jay bush bean is a fairly early producer of green pods streaked with purple. A very productive all-rounder snap bean and dry bean with excellent flavour. The seed has a unique coloring of navy blue mottled with beige markings. On average, there are 6 to 7 seeds per pod. 60 days for fresh, 90 days for dry beans.’
