Semi-runner bean: Slippery Silks
R30.00 incl VAT
This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘This is one of the most sought-after beans in the world right now. The short bushy plants send out an occasional runner that ends up growing to 1.2m tall. The medium-sized pods mature from green to a stunning red, which is a very rare colour for a pod. Unfortunately at the red colour stage, the pods are very fibrous and not good for fresh eating but perfect for shelling. The pods can also be left to dry to produce very attractive dark red dry beans that have a similar flavour profile to kidney beans. Slippery silks are named for their extra smooth pods that are extremely easy to shell. The beans are believed to originate in Honduras where they are a staple and are used in some of their national cuisines. They have an outstanding flavour with a creamy texture. A very rare, attractive, tasty and productive bean.’
