Tomato: Blue Keys

R45.00 incl VAT

This variety is from Peak Week Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘This is something different and not a variety you’ll find around every corner. Blue Keys was developed by well-known tomato breeder Dean Slater, Michigan, USA. He named it after one of his friends, Rev Michael Keyes, and this blue version is one of a ‘Keys’ series that includes another coloured version of the same line. Blue Keys have a very interesting bowling pin shape that showcases true blue colouring from the shoulders downwards. They are ripe when the bottoms turn a red colour, but I prefer them slightly earlier to avoid them from going too soft for my liking. The plants are very productive and were the last tomatoes were left in my garden this past season, still going and growing strong. The flavour is well-balanced and the slightly thicker skins make for a flavourful explosion in your mouth. This could be an alternative to the red and yellow pear-shaped tomatoes that is available in the general market.’
