Chilli – Rocoto Red

R30.00 incl VAT

This variety is from Peak Weak Pods. JC Terblanche says: ‘Now this is an interesting Peruvian heirloom variety in so many ways. Also known as Tree Peppers they grow as big as trees and will take up quite some space. They are some of the best overwinter varieties and are cold-hardy, producing almost all year round. The plants have slightly furry leaves, unlike other peppers. They produce beautiful pendant purple flowers that are followed by green 3 to 4 cm green pods that eventually turn red. The growth habits and leaves are different to other chillis but the seeds of the Rococo Red are also black as opposed to most peppers that have cream/yellow seeds. Each pod has a different heat level with some of them having a good burn and some will bring you to your knees! The best uses for these are to make sauces, and salsas and to add to stews. They are not recommended for drying into powder as they hold lots of water in those thick walls.’
