Description

Our fabulous fabric grow bags are versatile and handy. We use them to replace the plastic bags when we grow on our young trees in our tree nursery. We also use them for bulbs, potatoes (the largest version) and tomatoes.

Available in 5, 20, 10 and 25 litre options, our fab bags are made from geotextiles made from recycled plastic bottles and which are UV stabilised (and thus perfect for outdoor use).  The velcro side opening allows one to gently remove root balls from the bag to prevent trauma while transplanting, and also to enable the bag to be reused over and over again.

The bags fold flat for easy packing. (They also make excellent storage bags when not in use in the garden.)

Handles make it easy to move full bags around the garden – I do this rather successfully with my flowering dahlias in summer. And my potatoes have been superb!

How do fabric grow bags perform against black plastic bags? Well, they’re durable and fully-reusable, and can be moved/carried easily (something not always possible with slippery plastic bags). The light-coloured fabric reflects heat (whereas a black plastic bag would cause heat damage to the root ball). The percolation rate of the fabric prevents over watering. Air is as important as water for good root development and it moves easily in and out of the ‘pot’. Roots will be air-pruned when they reach the boundary of the pot, and adventitious roots will be created in support – thus forming a healthy root ball for the future growth of the plant/tree. A win all round, I’d say!
