Who knew that daylilies, a stalwart in many gardens, are edible? Their petals taste like lettuce and their buds are brilliant dipped in batter and fried.

Description
These day lilies are individual plants in pots and were grown from tubers from Hadeco (a well-known South African producer of quality tubers and bulbs for the export and domestic market). When you order a pot, you’ll receive a well-established plant, with the prospect of blooms of a mystery colour (cos we don’t know yet). The flowers range lemon yellow to orange, wine-red, pink and mauve.

Plant in full sun or semi-shade as soon as possible after purchase. Keep continually moist at root level. Feed monthly and leave in situ. Best flowering will occur on the second season’s growth so … don’t hesitate to get growing daylilies to add another dimension to your home garden food foraging.
Although daylilies are hardy, keep an eye out for sneaky slugs and snails which can damage the flowers.
If you’d like to add to your collection, or are after particular colours or doubles, please contact Potager Kitchen Gardens and we’ll secure bulbs for you for Spring 2022.
